Dr Andy Effting

Founder and Clinical Director

Andy graduated from the University of the Witwatersrand in 1981, where he was honoured with the Henry St. John Randolph medal for Best All-Round Dental Student of the Year.

He moved to Cape Town in 1982 and founded the Hout Bay Dental Studio in 1983. What started as a single dentist practice has flourished over the past four decades into a thriving multi-disciplinary dental facility comprising four dentists, a part-time periodontist and endodontist, and two oral hygienists.

Andy became an early adopter and advocate of mercury-free, minimally invasive aesthetic dentistry and holistic patient treatment. His reputation in these areas has led many integrative health practitioners to refer their patients to him, recognizing his ability to address unique dental treatment concerns and needs. Additionally, he has extensive experience in dental implantology, having attended numerous international and local courses and symposiums.

As a leading dentist in Cape Town, Andy has contributed significantly to the dental community. He is a founding member and past President of the South African Academy of Aesthetic Dentistry and a Fellow of the International Team of Implantology. He also served several years as the Cape Town ITI Study Club Director. A national lecturer, he has published articles in dental and health journals and has been a guest on radio and television discussing dental matters.

Beyond his professional achievements, Andy is a family man. He is married to Alison, a complementary health practitioner with expertise in biochemic tissue salts, colour therapy and astrology. In his spare time, he is an avid sportsman, particularly passionate about cycling.
