Our Founder and Clinical Director

Dr Andy Effting

Dr Andy Effting graduated top of his class (Best All-Round Student, University of the Witwatersrand, 1981) and founded Hout Bay Dental Studio in 1983, establishing a single-chair practice that’s grown into a leading multidisciplinary clinic.

A pioneer in mercury‑free, minimally invasive, aesthetic dentistry and holistic patient care, Andy has been instrumental in shaping modern dental practices in South Africa. He is a founding member and past president of the South African Academy of Aesthetic Dentistry, as well as a Fellow of the International Team for Implantology —where he also served as Cape Town Study Club Director.

Andy is recognised not only for his clinical excellence but also for his dedication to mentorship, publishing, and lecturing nationally. Away from the practice, he and his wife Alison enjoy their home in Hout Bay, spending time with family and friends, and exploring the outdoors.
